We Are the World
A few weeks ago in Haiti, a devastating earthquake shook the grounds and killed many people. To bring awareness to this horrible incident and to raise money, many people got together to perform a song. This song is called “We Are the World 25 for Haiti.” This song is a remake of the original “We Are the World” which came out in 1985 and was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. This new song took around 12 hours to create and was sung by over 80 artists and was finally released and debuted on February 12, 2010, for the opening ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympics. This song was produced by Rickey Minor and RedOne. Some of the artists in this song include Michael Jackson, Justin Bieber, Jennifer Hudson, Wyclef Jean, Miley Cyrus, Jamie Foxx, Usher, Lil Wayne, T-Pain, Kanye West, and many others. All the proceeds from this song will go directly to a new charity which was just founded called We Are the World Foundation, and all this money will go to Haiti. To hear this song click here.

This song is fantastic! It's nice to know that it was sung by new artists to raise money for the people in Haiti. I remember hearing the old version, which was sung by many famous singers of 1985. I remember being told that back then all of the artists who sang this song were given about an hour to learn and rehearse the song. Fortunately, the result was a hit! "We are the world, we are the children..." GREAT SONG! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI heard this song during an Olympic telecast. I was a bit disappointed with some of the artists using Autotune (makes their voice sound so robotic) since I would expect major singers to at least be able to sing well. On the other hand, although I don't listen to much rap, I enjoyed the rapping portion of the song. I felt the inclusion of this portion showcased the evolution of music and also conveyed an essential message of the song (unity) through the compilation of music styles.
