82nd Academy Awards

The 2010 Oscars, as I previously wrote about, took place on March 7, 2010. The hosts this year of this award show were Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin. This was Martin’s third time hosting while it was only the first time for Baldwin. Avatar and the Hurt Locker were each nominated a total of nine times. Hurt Locker won six awards, the most awards won by a movie that night, followed by Avatar, which one three. One of the six awards that Hurt Locker won was Best Director, for Kathryn Bigelow, who became the first female director to do so. The other five awards that Hurt Locker won included Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Film Editing. Avatar’s three awards included Best Visual Effects, Best Cinematography, and Best Art Direction. On a totally different note, during the ceremony there was also a short memorial montage, which was produced by Chuck Workman, and included people such as Patrick Swayze, Brittany Murphy, Michael Jackson, and many more. This is always a nice tribute to those who worked very hard in life and sadly passed away. Overall, this award show was very entertaining and a good Sunday night show.
