This upcoming Sunday, March 7,2010, the annual Academy Awards will be held at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, California. The Academy Awards, better known as the Oscars, takes place annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and recognizes the best of the film industry, like the directors, actors, and writers. The Oscars is the oldest award ceremony that still takes place yearly, and was created by a studio boss named Louis B. Mayer. Some nominees and categories include the Best Actor in a Leading Role, the nominees in this category are Jeff Bridges in “Crazy Heart,” George Clooney in “Up in the Air,” Colin Firth in “A Single Man,” Morgan Freeman in “Invictus,” Jeremy Renner in “the Hurt Locker.” The nominees for Best Actress in a Leading Role include Sandra Bullock in “the Blind Side,” Helen Mirren in the “Last Station,” Carey Mulligan in “an Education,” Gabourey Sidibe in “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire,” and Meryl Steep in “Julie & Julia.” For a complete list of the Oscar nominees for every category click here.
